Mindfulness

The subject of mindfulness (the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us) can be controversial.  Some believe it is a gateway to personal happiness while others see it as paying attention to far too many things at once.

Read the ONE of the following articles and answer the questions.

Getting Started with Mindfulness

  1. Summarize the video in one sentence.
  2. What does "mindfulness" mean to you?
  3. What does the author mean by "judgment"?
  4. Do you believe most of "mindfulness" is about meditation?  Why or why not?
  5. Pick ONE of either Mindful Practices or Myths and briefly summarize and give your opinion.

Is Mindfulness Making Us Ill?
  1. What does this author believe is "mindfulness"?
  2. Why do companies such as Google, Apple and Ikea use mindfulness training?
  3. Why does the author believe that "mindfulness" practices are harmful?
  4. Do you think napping might be a better alternative to meditation?
  5. In your opinion, is "mindfulness" making people ill?  Support your answer.
